The Skatepark of Venice Beach Opens!

The Skatepark of Venice Beach Opens!

On October 3rd, 2009, he Venice Beach skateboard park opened. The opening day was insane! Legendary Dogtown skateboarders such as Christian Hosoi and Tony Alva skated the bowl showing that even though they are a little older than they were in their prime days, they can still skate. The whole park was filled with people from all over the world.
The grand opening was kind of like a demo. There were around a thousand people who all came out and watch this epic event go down. According to local skaters, the city of Venice has been promising skateboarders a new skatepark for over 3 years now. Now it’s finally built and ready to skate.  Features of the skatepark include the following: A 10 ft deep pool, a street course, a small bowl for the intermediate skater, and a “slolom” course.
I skated their when it opened and I was highly impressed with the amount of professional skateboarders who made appearances. Lance Mountain, Bob Burnquist, Mike Mo and even Wade Desarmo were shredding the park. There were a bunch of unknown skaters who were almost as good as the pros! I’m sure after that opening, some of the unknown skaters were offered sponsorships. I like the street course section of the skatepark because the metal grinds like butter and it has a good flow to it. One major thing I like about the skatepark is it caters to every skater; the bowl ripper, street skater, and people who like to just ride around and look cool. This skatepark is good because of the location. It’s right on the beach, a lot of beautiful people, and, of course, it’s Venice Beach!

If you happen to be in Venice this coming weekend be sure to stop at the skatepark and watch art in motion! So for all of you skaters looking to get your grind on head right to the beach in Venice.
